Hornický skazen Žacléř – deep coal mining
The Jan Šverma Mine site is the last preserved monument of deep coal mining in eastern Bohemia, documented as early as the 16th century. The complexes of mining buildings at the Jan and Julie shafts are declared cultural monuments of the Czech Republic. In the engine rooms and shaft buildings, an exhibition showcases the movement of mining carts on the surface of the former mine, with additional exhibits including old mining maps, paleontological finds, and photographic documentation of the mine's past operations. The exhibition also offers a tour of a part of the Julie shaft, the ventilation channel, and the fan room equipment, as well as views of the Krkonoše mountains and the Královecký Špičák from the Jan shaft tower.
Artillery fort STACHELBERG – army museum
Stachelberg was part of the border fortifications against Nazi Germany. Construction began in October 1937 as the largest Czechoslovak artillery fortification and one of the largest of its kind worldwide. Its construction was interrupted by the Munich Agreement and the cession of the border to Germany in October 1938. It was planned to have 12 structures (bunkers) connected by an extensive underground system. In less than a year of construction, underground spaces were excavated, and one bunker was concreted on the surface.
Adventure playground Pecka
The Pecka Play Landscape stretches between the discovery of nature, the experience of architecture, and whimsical playfulness at an altitude of 1062 m. A unique set of wooden interactive sculptures and objects themed around Krkonoše's fauna offers life-sized encounters with the animal inhabitants of the highest Czech mountains. Sticking your head into a lynx's mouth, riding on a deer’s antlers, competing with feisty ants, or climbing into a stork's nest can be both educational and entertaining.
